Mauritius Pink Pigeon Ceramic Bird
Mauritius Pink Pigeon Ceramic Bird
This species experienced a decline in the 1970s with a population estimated at less than 20 individuals. The causes of this decline were found to be the loss of their natural habitat, decline in the quantity of food and the introduction of exotic and invasive species. Nesoenas Mayeri - is a species of pigeon in the family Columbidae endemic to Mauritius.
Today restricted only to the National Park and Ile aux Aigrettes, the Pink Pigeon is doing much better with a population of around 250-999 according to the latest publication from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 2018. For more than 30 years, NGOs and government have worked side by side to preserve this beautiful bird.
