Collaborators

At the Studio

Cathy is cutting out the forms from the clay that will eventually become a bird.

Local artists

All the birds are handpainted

Cathy is using photographs as a reference for painting to make sure the right colours and shades are used for the endemic species.

Rachel McLaughlin

Rachel is a primary school teacher from England.  She has lived in Mauritius for three years where she has been part of the pottery team at the charity centre, ‘Beautiful Local Hands’ in Bambous.  She first began studying ceramics ten years ago in New York City, before joining a studio in London.  She enjoys making pieces through coil building and loves a good pit firing.  She is useless at speaking French but can speak basic creole with a terrible accent.
