This bird which can be considered the rarest in Mauritius. Classified as critically endangered by the IUCN, the population of this species is estimated at around 191-327 (IUCN 2016). A relatively restricted bird on Ile aux Aigrettes, it can also be seen in the high forests of the Black River Gorges National Park. The characteristic of the bird is that it has a white circle around its eyes.
