Beginner Hand building Course (Starting 3rd February 2026)
When: Tuesday, Thursday mornings 9h00 – 12h00 and Thursday evenings 17h30 -20h30
30 min set up, 2 hours of tutoring and 30 minutes for clean-up.
Price: Rs 14 000 for 8-week course
About this class
Designed especially for beginners, running over 8 weeks. Over eight weeks you will be guided, step by step, through the three main hand-building techniques of pinch, coil and slab. You will also be introduced to the technique of drape/slump moulding. Throughout the 8 weeks you will discover approaches for decorating, using colour and glazing your work. A library of ceramics books and journals for inspiration are available and you are encouraged to be experimental in your use of surface decoration. We keep the classes small so that we can tailor our teaching to your needs. All materials are included in the class fee. All you need to bring with you is an apron and a notebook. Additional items you can bring along will be in the introductory notes attached.
Reserve your place for this block of 8 x 2-hour classes with a deposit of Rs 7000, the balance of Rs 7000 can be paid by card or cash at your first class.
Intermediate Hand building Class
When: Tuesday mornings from 9h00 to 12h00 and Thursday evenings from 17h30 - 20h30

Price: Rs 1750 per session
About this class
A class that focuses on hand building techniques, exploring a wide variety of surface decoration. This class is suitable for anyone who has completed our general beginner’s class or who has some experience of working with clay. You will be fully supported by the tutor to realise your ideas in clay, develop your skills and explore new techniques with surface decoration. A slab roller, some basic moulds along with a range of tools, equipment and materials will be available to use with plenty of space to hand-build on our workbenches. All materials and firing are included in the class fee. We fire to earthenware 1140 and stoneware 1180 and have transparent glazes for each temperature. We keep the classes small so that we can tailor our teaching to your needs. All you need to bring with you is an apron, a small hand towel and a notebook.
Pottery classes age 8 to 16 years
When: Wednesday afternoons 15h30 – 17h30

About this class
Regular classes for young people aged 8 to 16. After school classes bookable in blocks of 4 consecutive classes. Each session will focus on a specific hand building process with pinching, coiling and using soft and leather hard slabs. We will experiment with a wide variety of surface decoration and glazes to create a selection of beautiful and unique pieces over the weeks. The classes are small so that the teaching can be tailored to everyone's needs. All materials and firing are included in the class fee.

BOWL PAINTING - On request for +4pp
First workshop of the year: Saturday 21 February 2026
Join us to learn how to decorate ceramics. A white blank bisqued bowl will be provided, 26cm x 15cm which you will have an opportunity to paint with ceramic underglaze paints. There will be a demonstration of different techniques to use and try at the start of the session. This is a good way to try your hand at ceramics without all the mess of clay work.

PORCELAIN CANDELABRA WORKSHOP - Rs 6600

Make your own candelabra using porcelain paper clay. This will be a full day workshop starting at 9am and finishing at 2pm. Stephanie will demonstrate how to make paper clay and then how to work with it. You will have an opportunity to create a candelabra. As paper clay is a very versatile medium, please bring along any natural material that you can use in the process. This material will burn away and leave the impression of the material in the clay, e.g. dry sticks, doilies, hard flowers, washed plastic flowers, seeds, cotton lattice, wooden skewers etc. 10% cash discount. Please bring your own lunch, there will be tea, coffee and water provided and there are fridge facilities available. Park at Vanilla Connect if possible, as our parking is limited.
